by Fast Heart Mart

Just vocal, banjo, upright bass and a bit of harmonica on this album. Recorded in Fast Heart Mart's apartment on August 7th 2017. Half covers and half original songs.

Fast Heart Mart is playing a lot of farmers' markets and city sidewalks these days, so he's had to adjust his repertoire accordingly. It is rare for FHM to do a cover song, but in this day and age it is what people want to hear. When a musician plays on the street, they only have about 10 seconds to catch a passerby's attention. Sometimes the best way to do this is to play something familiar, like a well done cover song. Not to worry though, FHM covers songs in his own way, giving them new life. I mean have you ever heard "Crazy Train" done with a banjo before? Die hard FHM fans will be glad to know that there is 2 new original songs on this new album as well as 5 older original tunes that have been rerecorded to represent their current incarnation.

Track Name: Crappy Holiday
Please excuse my negativity
but last year just ended terribly for me
Alone with a flu for Christmas good grief
dumped by a girl 3 days before New Year’s Eve

People ask me about my resolution
mine is to stay out of a mental institution
I say that half jokingly
all I really want is to be healthy and happy

Valentine’s Day came and went
But I don’t regret that text that I sent
professing my love to my exgirlfriend
though she told me her new man got her pregnant

St Patrick’s Day I was sad again
A girl I really like came out to hear my band
People drunk and screaming you couldn’t hear a thing
Then she introduced me to her Irish boyfriend

And 4th of July I was a lonely guy
I asked a girl out, that I also like
She told me unless I’ve make up my mind
to leave her alone and to go eat poop and die

Now I’m so depressed and wondering
if I should quit all this songwriting
Bob Dylan’s depressed and so is Kurt Cobain
Should I learn another trade before I go insane?

I called my family who live so far away
Sounds like they all had a great Thanksgiving Day
With or without me their lives are moving on
I can’t help but wonder if I’ve done something wrong

Now here is a mildly happy ending
I just paid my bills and I’m making a living
Life is magical when I let it be
Thank God I’m alive and still breathing
Track Name: Crazy Train
Crazy, but that's how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
Maybe it's not too late
To learn how to love
And forget how to hate

Mental wounds still healing
Who and what's to blame
We're going off the rails on a crazy train
We're going off the rails on a crazy train

I've listened to preachers
I've listened to fools
I've watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules
One person conditioned to rule and control
The media sells it and you live the role

Mental wounds still healing
Who and what's to blame
We're going off the rails on a crazy train
We're going off the rails on a crazy train

I know that things are going wrong for me
You gotta listen to my words

Crazy, but that's how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
Maybe it's not too late
To learn how to love
And forget how to hate

Mental wounds still healing
Who and what's to blame
We're going off the rails on a crazy train
We're going off the rails on a crazy train
Track Name: Hearts and Dreams
People try to tell you
what you gotta do
don't you listen to them
unless you think it's true

follow your heart
and your dreams

I've been alive for a while now
one thing that I know
you gotta listen to your heart if
you're gonna protect your soul

there's a miracle man
in the hospital
couldn't even walk
now he's walking down the hall
Track Name: Wish You Were Here
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from hell
Blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
And how we found
The same old fears
Wish you were here
Track Name: Everything's Alright
Everything’s gonna be alright
Everything’s gonna be just fine
Everything’s gonna be alright

Just Hold on
Just Hold on

If you can just still your mind
Less is wrong than is right
If you can just still your mind

Just hold on
Just hold on

Sometimes you drift in life
It’s hard work just getting by
Sometimes you drift in life

Just hold on
Just hold on
Then Just let go
Track Name: Norwegian Wood
I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me...
She showed me her room, isn't it good, norwegian wood?

She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere,
So I looked around and I noticed there wasn't a chair.

I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine
We talked until two and then she said, "It's time for bed"

She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh.
I told her I didn't and crawled off to sleep in the bath

And when I awoke, I was alone, this bird had flown
So I lit a fire, isn't it good, norwegian wood?

I once had a girl or should I say, she once had me?
Track Name: I'm An Alien and I Want to Go Home
I was living in the garden of Eden
eating fruit right off the trees
harmony on my mind
Living a life of ease
God spoke to everyone
over an intercom
The speakers were in the clouds
and we all lived in a wigwam
We could speak back to him
through a microphone
that was hanging from the ceiling
dangling precariously
between a wishbone

One Morning God spoke to us
and made a forecast
"You are all getting too fat
so now you must fast"
Breakfast was skipped
and no one really cared
It was not until supper
that people started getting scared
Stomachs were rumbling
louder than the clouds
we had never gone this long without food
and we thought we would pass out

I went and layed down on a coutch
and started watching the tv
There was some guy on the news digging in the dirt plating pinto beans
He called himself a farmer and he was taking control
Of this situation and he went back to digging his holes

I looked over at my friend
who sat in a recliner
and noticed he was eating
when I asked him what
he said " tv dinner"
Maybe he forgot
so I reminded him
"God said not to eat
until further instructions"
"We dont need God anymore
you simple little man
Now the farmer sells us food
from his Taco Stand"

So I walked down the street
toward the smell of the tacos
I went up to the counter
and ordered 5 bean burritos
tHe kid asked "for here or to go?"
I said that I would stay
he pushed some buttons on the register
and said that'll be $6.50
I had never heard of money before
so I asked him for his boss
he looked at me kind of crazy
and told me to go get lost

I was feeling very weak by now
so I went to that microphone
I wanted to talk to God
and ask if the fast could be postponed
When I spoke I could only hear a faint reply
There was too much noise outside
From the people rushing to work and
from all the cars passing by
So I ran to my nearest lawn
to find a fruit tree
lots of green grass
but not a single thing to eat

I sat down on a sidewalk
with a bottle of liquor
People threw some coins at me
but I had no idea what they were
I had a job mopping floors
that lasted for a day
But I had no watch, was late
and was fired without pay
So that night I slept in a park
underneath the stars
When a flying saucer came down
from the planet Mars
"Hop in buddy, we've been looking for you",
the creature said to me
And just like that at the speed of light
we went to another galaxy
Track Name: Tomorrow
I know today is a passing day and I'll feel better tomorrow
I'll understand my rambling ways and I'll feel better tomorrow

Tomorrow, tomorrow Things are bound to change
Tomorrow, tomorrow, I wont feel so strange
Track Name: I Won't Back Down
by Tom Petty
Track Name: Good Lordy I'm 40
Over the Hill’s where I’m going
And that’s alright with me
AT the end of my life my soul will be released
Good Lordy I’m 40

I'm proud of myself for going ‘round the sun on the planet this many times.
God knows It ain't been easy for me I made a choice to keep living

I’m still single with no wife and kids or family of my own
But There’s still time anyways I am fine this whole wide world is my home

Calling all my friends for this occasion get together and celebrate
Bring Black balloons come sing all your tunes and let’a all eat some birthday cake
Track Name: Rocky Top
Wish that I was on old Rocky Top
Down in the Tennessee hills
Ain't no smoggy smoke on Rocky Top
Ain't no telephone bills.

Once I had a girl on Rocky Top
Half bear the other half cat
Wild as a mink but sweet as soda pop
I still dream about that.

Rocky Top you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ole Rocky Top, Rocky Top, Tennessee
Rocky Top, Tennessee.

Once two strangers climbed old Rocky Top
Looking for a moonshine still
Strangers ain't come down from Rocky Top
Reckon they never will.

Corn won't grow at all on Rocky Top
Dirt's too rocky by far
That's why all the folks on Rocky Top
Get their corn from a jar.

Rocky Top you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ole Rocky Top, Rocky Top, Tennessee
Rocky Top, Tennessee.

--- Instrumental ---

I've had years of cramped up city life
Trapped like a duck in a pen
All I know is it's a pity life
Can't be simple again.

Rocky Top you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ole Rocky Top, Rocky Top, Tennessee
Rocky Top, Tennessee.

Rocky Top, Tennessee...
Track Name: Haunting
My thoughts are haunting me again
They woke me up this mornin'
I did not want to leave my bed
My thoughts are haunting me again
Like demons they are possessing
I wish they'd let me be

My heart can hardly catch a breath
My life seems like such a mess
since I left you My Princess
My heart can hardly catch a breath
One foot out and one foot in
I need resolution

Grandfather took to drinking
His thoughts must have been haunting
He must have been suffering
So Grandfather took to drinking
And now the whole family
Is still recovering

A Great Force made everything
and I still have my faith
Her Universe is providing
and I still have my faith
